We’ve recently been talking about the importance of Mattering in your own life and in demonstrating to others that they matter to you. So far, we’ve covered:

Today, we’re talking about the importance of demonstrating to your employees that they matter to you.

Over the course of our work, we’ve heard from many of you that, as a leader, you want to feel proud and confident in your ability to motivate the people you lead. You want to create success, together.

While you’re committed to that success, you may still struggle with the people aspect of your leadership.

Since the people aspect is what leadership is, we’re committed to identifying the simple, core behaviors that create great leadership: VALUE and CARE.

Take a look at the Leadership Mattering Matrix below as you consider the people in your work world:

  • make a list of each person who reports to you or you work with
  • write down where they land on the matrix
  • note what you can do to demonstrate that they matter to you (or to manage their performance so that they DO matter to you)

As you can see, mattering matters!

To retain your great employees and your great leaders, it’s crucial that you create a culture of belonging where everyone feels cared for and valued. They feel that they matter.

When people feel that they matter, they are more apt to trust that they can bring their success, challenges, differences of opinion, and requests for support, to you/the team, without worrying that there will be negative repercussions.

When people trust that they can bring all of themselves to the conversation, success follows! Success for them, the team, and the organization.

Stay tuned for our post next week when we’ll review some tips and suggestions for how to demonstrate VALUE and CARE.
