Last week, we reminded you of the importance of taking some time to identify your Life Priorities.
We’ve found that doing this exercise can serve as a great foundation in helping you to make more intentional decisions about how you’re spending your moments.
Once you’ve identified your life priorities, it’s also important to reflect on them. So today, we want to share some suggestions for creating a regular reflection practice.
If you haven’t done the Life Priorities exercise yet, we’d encourage you to do so.
If you have completed the life priorities exercise, we encourage you to create a regular reflection practice.
Read through our suggestions below, and consider if one or more of these could work for you.
Pause and set intentions.
- In the morning, Pause and glance at your day.
- Use this moment to envision what the day will look like and how you’d like to focus your time.
- Ask yourself, “If I’m taking action on my top life priorities today, what will that look like?”
Pause and check-in.
- Create some electronic or handwritten notes to help remind you to Pause and check in throughout your day.
- Use these moments to reflect on how you’ve been spending your time.
- Ask yourself, “Have I been focusing on my top life priorities so far today? What will the rest of my day look like if I do focus on my top life priorities?”
Pause and reflect.
- At the end of the day, Pause and reflect on how things went.
- Use this moment to consider how you spent your time.
- Ask yourself, “Did I make decisions and focus my time according to my top life priorities?”
NOTE: In addition to a daily practice, we recommend doing a more detailed reflection, every month or so, for each of your top 3-5 life priorities.
- Set a reminder on your phone or calendar to check in with yourself on how you’ve been doing.
- Ask yourself, “What’s going well? What’s been challenging? What do I want to focus on moving forward?”
Reflecting regularly on your top priorities, can help you to focus your time on the things that matter most to you. In turn, you’ll be more apt to feel satisfied and fulfilled with your days.
This week, think about one or two ways you can set yourself up for success.
