We recently started a Finding Joy series to support you with the uncertainties and challenges of life.

So far, we’ve discussed how both connection and kindness can add joy to your life and improve your health and wellness.

Today, we’ll explore how leading your life with meaning can add to your sense of fulfillment and wellbeing.

If you’ve been with us for any length of time, you’ll know that we find the Life Priorities exercise a great way to bring meaning to your world.

We’ve seen time and again that when you identify and reflect regularly on your life priorities, you’ll be more intentional about making decisions which can help you to feel a greater sense of meaning, purpose, and overall satisfaction.

When you know and live your priorities, you make the most of your time, focus on actions that lead to success, and create a life of fulfillment and joy.

This exercise offers you a way to sort through all of the noise and chaos of everyday life, to get clear about what matters most to you.

A few notes about the Life Priorities exercise:

  • If this is the first time you’re doing this exercise, we recommend that you set aside 30-60 minutes in a space where you’re able to think big, dream, and wonder.
  • If you’ve done this exercise in the past, you may want to review your answers again. As we all know, life changes over the years, and sometimes as a result, so do our priorities.
    • We’ve found that redoing the full exercise can be quite helpful.
    • Alternatively, you may decide that you want to just look at your final top list and consider whether or not you’d reorder, delete, and/or edit any of them.
  • The life priorities exercise can also be a wonderful exercise to do with a personal or professional partner or even your whole family!

Once you’ve completed the exercise, we suggest writing your top 3-5 life priorities somewhere you’ll be able to reflect on them regularly.

When you live
according to your priorities,
you’ll find that you
have a sense of meaning and purpose,
and are able to find joy and happiness
in your moments
—regardless of the challenges thrown at you.

We’d love to hear what you discover as you work through this exercise!

Stay tuned for next week when we’ll talk about Finding Joy with Gratitude.

Be well.

PLEASE NOTE: If you’re struggling or are having persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or loss of interest, we encourage you to reach out to your physician, therapist, or a local mental health line for support. It’s important to take good care of yourself.
