We’ve recently been talking about the importance of developing a growth mindset.First, we started by describing a growth mindset, which is the belief that with time and experience, we can all learn, grow, and become more intelligent.

Then, we reviewed some suggestions for ways you could practice a growth mindset, with things like openness and curiosity for others’ perspectives and aiming for progress vs. perfection.

Last week, we shared some examples of how you could develop a growth mindset with your organization by defining, normalizing, and tracking the new behaviors.

The intention is to train our brains
to think of challenges
as opportunities for learning and growth,
rather than feeling defeated
when things don’t go right
the first time.

Changing a behavior, habit, or way of thinking involves many nuances—and the same is true when developing a growth mindset.

So today, we’re revisiting a few key reminders to help support you as you build that mindset

  • It’s a work in progress and is never a one and done.
  • Others will have their own experiences.
  • We aren’t ALL able to learn the same things or learn at the same pace. Some people may hit plateaus earlier than others.
  • Somedays, you may find it easy to remain open to the learning experience, and other days it may be a struggle.
  • It may feel effortless for you in one or more areas of your life, while feeling difficult in others.

When you embrace learning as an ongoing journey, you become more resilient, adaptable, and better able to navigate life’s opportunities and challenges.

Consider one or two areas in your life where you could try something new (learn a skill, grow in your leadership, develop a learning culture at work) and when it doesn’t go as planned or you hit obstacles, remind yourself, “I haven’t figured this out yet.”

Remember, practicing a growth mindset, is just that—practice. Be patient and remain open to learning from and supporting each other as you practice a growth mindset.
