Last week, we started an email series with Your Past, to support you in planning for the upcoming year. In that email, we provided you with some prompts to help you identify your 2023 accomplishments, challenges, and learnings (among other things!).).

Today, we’re focusing
on
the question,
“What matters most to you in this life?”

To reflect on this, we’re sharing an exercise that has become a foundation for the work we do with our clients. It’s called Life Priorities. We’ve found that it can provide a guide for you as you’re looking forward to the new year and as you’re making big and small decisions on a daily basis.

Knowing your life priorities and
taking the time to reflect on them regularly
will significantly increase your chances of creating the success
that truly matters to you.

In this busy life, it can be difficult to sort through all of our competing wishes, hopes, dreams, fears, regrets, longings, demands, and obligations to identify what truly matters to us. This exercise offers us a way to sort through all of that noise and chaos to get clear about what matters most.

A few notes about the Life Priorities exercise:

  • If this is the first time you’re doing this exercise, we recommend that you set aside 30-60 minutes in a space where you’re able to think big, dream, and wonder.
  • If you’ve done this exercise in the past, you may want to review your answers again. As we all know, life changes over the years, and sometimes as a result, so do our priorities.
    • We’ve found that redoing the full exercise can be quite helpful.
    • Alternatively, you may decide that you want to just look at your final top list and consider whether or not you’d reorder, delete, and/or edit any of them.
  • The life priorities exercise can also be a wonderful exercise to do with a personal or professional partner or even your whole family!

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need assistance with the exercise or would like some coaching and support on how to use the life priorities as you move forward to create the success that truly matters to you.

Stay tuned for next week’s post when we’ll help you think about Your Present, and answer the question, “What does your life look like today?”
